3 PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS: This pattern is written using American terminology and is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. The finished products using the materials described in this pattern are both ~2.5 inches / 5 cm high with Willy the Blue Whale being ~3.5 inches / 9 cm long and Nelly the Narwhal being ~4 inches / 10 cm long. Yarn (Drops Safran 4 ply, For Willy: Medium Grey (07), White (17), Denim Blue (06); For Nelly: Light Pink (01), White (17), Yellow (10)) 2. Fabric glue ABBREVIATIONS: BLO = back loop only | ch = chain | dec = decrease | dc-inc = double crochet increase | inc = increase | rnd = round | sc = single crochet | sl st = slip stitch | st = stitch A very quick guide to the stitches used in this pattern in alphabetical order: 1. Chain (ch): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through loop on hook. 2. Decrease (dec): I prefer to use the ?invisible? decrease. For this, insert hook into front loop of first stitch (from the front and under). Repeat into front loop of next stitch. Yarn over and pull loop through both loops on hook. 3. Double crochet (dc): Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch (there should be 3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull loop through both loops left on hook (there should be 2 loops left on hook), yarn over, pull loop through remaining loop on hook. 4. Double crochet increase (dc-inc): Work two double crochets into the same stitch. 5. Increase (inc): Work two single crochets into the same stitch. 6. Magic ring: Wrap yarn around fingers to form a loop. Insert hook through middle of loop. Pull working end of yarn through ring and chain the required number of stitches through. Pull the yarn ends to close the loop. 7. Single crochet (sc): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch (there should be 2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull loop through both loops on hook. 8. JOIN TAIL Rnd 1: Sc into the first st of Rnd 6 of the Upper Tail Fin (after the st you marked previously, Picture 1). Continue to sc into each of the next 7 st on the Upper Tail Fin, sc in each of the next 6 st on the Lower Tail Fin [14] Rnd 2: Sc in each st around [14] Use the long tail left from the end of Rnd 6 of the Upper Tail Fin to sew the gap between where you joined the Lower and Upper Tail Fins. Weave the yarn tail down through the Water Spray you just created such that the yarn tail comes out through the bottom of the Water Spray for sewing onto body later. ASSEMBLY OF WILLY THE BLUE WHALE 1. Sew the side fins onto the body. I position each side fin between Rnd 15 and 16 of the body and it sits ~5 st from where the eye was inserted (Picture 2). Picture 1 Upper Tail Fin Lower Tail Fin Last (Marked) st of Rnd 6 Picture 2 Rnd 15 ~5 sts apart

The tail edge should fall over Rnd 16 to 18 of the body (Picture 3). 3. Sew the Water Spray onto the body. I place a pin through the middle of the shaft of the Water Spray (Picture 4). The base of the Water Spray sits over Rnd 1 of the Body and I use the pin to just secure it in place first. Sew the Water Spray on using the front loops left from Rnd 2 of the Body. 4. Cut out 2 x circles from a sheet of pink felt. I used circles with a diameter of 6 mm each. Use fabric glue and attach each circle over Rnd 15 and 16 of the body a stitch behind the eye (Picture 5).
