Both the arms and the feet a re started with a chain, rather than a magic circle. Th is is to create an
oval shape rather than a circle.
In the first row after the chain, you turn your work and make the stitches in the top of the chain.

When you reach the end, you will add 3sc into one stitch (the first stitch in your chain) then t urn your
work, and continue to make your stitches in the other side of the chain.

There will be an increase stitch in the final stitch which completes your oval. You can then continue
to work around the oval as you might work around a magic circle .

The next section (lines 12 to 18) is creating the calf of the leg. The increases ( “1 inc ”) should all be
at the centre of the back of the leg . If you find that your stitches do not run up the centre at this point,
move your stitch marker across to make it line up again.

Sew on toes at this point to allow you to easily hide threads inside. You may also find it easier to
insert the wire and gently stuff the foot and calf , although you can wait until the leg is fully created
(stuff ing can be a bit harder though) .

between rows 43 & 44 and top part of the ear should be sewn on between rows 47 & 48 .

Eye contours (optional) – Using skin tone yarn, along the line between rows 44 & 45, sew through
(from inside out) point A and into point B twice and pull tight. Sew one stitch two rows up, in
between A and B, and pull tight. Then sew t hrough point C to point D twice and again one stitch, two
rows up in the middle of C and D . P ull tight , repeat if required and tie off inside head.

The images below show how to sew the eyes. Use 2 ply or embroidery thread and tapestry needle or
regular sewing needle .
If you choose to make the facial contours you will need to stuff the face before sewing them and
before sewin g on the eyes. If you choose not to, you can sew the eyes before stuffing which can be
easier.
Top of pupil should be between rows 47 & 48 and should be about 1.5 stitches across and down.

Using black yarn, cut into about 5cm pi eces.
Start from the top centre of the head, working in a spiral around the holes between the stitches. Use
your hook to pull the middle of the piece of yarn through the head and then pull the ends through that
loop, creating a slip knot.

Work aro und the head, one stitch at a time until you get to the row between 5 3 and 5 4 (this is the
last row to go across the front of the face.)
After row 5 3/5 4 you should only work around the back of the head.

Page 20
For rows 5 2/5 3, stop 5 stitches after the line of the ear, skip the stitches across the forehead and
restart 5 stitches before the line of the ear on the other side.
For 5 1/5 2 stop 4 stitches after the line of the ear and restart at the same point on the other side of
the face.
For 50/51 stop 3 stitches after the line of the ear and restart at the same point on the other side of
the face. This will gradually move the hair away from the face.

Just in front of the ear, at row 49/50 , do 4 long stitches to create the side -burns. The first should
be 5 sti tches long, the second 4 stitches long, the third just 2 stitches (this should sit on top or just in
front of the ear) and the fourth 2 stitches long, just behind the ear. Then continue to thread in the
hair as before.

At the back of the hair , work dow n to row 41/42 (in line with the mouth), gradually coming in slightly
so that the line is not perfectly straight down.

Before completely sewing down the top of the cent re point, sew a few strands of yellow and red yarn in
the middle of the white shirt area, to form a tie, going slightly under the v -neck. Finish sewing down the
collar, enclosing the tie. See images below:

Add two small black buttons to the ba ck of the jumper, in line with the button holes. (It is a good idea to
try the jumper on the doll at this point, to make sure the buttons are placed correctly.)

Using a 30cm length of 2mm craft wire .
Create a circle about 1cm in diameter – Use a pencil or wooden spoon to give you a more accurate circle
shape. Repeat about 0.5 -1cm away from th e first circle (carefully checking the loops against the eyes to
make sure they fit your doll .)

Bend the arms, carefully fitting it to your doll to make sure that they line up with the ears and are held
securely . Cut off any excess wire.

Wrap the wire frames with black yarn and then cover with PVA glue to give strength and to hold down
any loose ends.
