Crocheted Giraffe Sofie

Material and tools:
- Yarn with approx. 130m/50g (Polyacryl) or 100m/50g (Cotton)
o < 50g yellow
o < 50g Brown
-
Stuffing (Polyester Filling)
-
2 plastic eyes with security lock (9-10mm) or two bla ck beads
-
Crochet hook size 4mm / F or size as specified on the yarn

Wool needle
Abbreviations
[brackets] – repeat instruction within brackets as often as given after brackets or to the end of the round or row
( round brackets ) – count of stitches done in this round or row
Number in front of an abbreviation – number of stitches to crochet
CH – chain
SC – single crochet
ST – stitch(es)
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
SLST – slip stitch
Sc2tog – single crochet 2 together (1 stitch decreased)
Hdc2tog – half double crochet 2 together (1 stitch
decreased)
Dc2tog – double crochet 2 together (1 stitch decreased)

General notes
Please read these instructions before working the pa ttern.
The beginning of each part
There are two options (I always use the second option . There are no holes at the beginning if you use the loop):
1.
Start with chain 2 and work every first round into t he first stitch made.
2.
Start with a magic circle (adjustable loop) and work number of stitches in the first round into the loop.
Changing rounds
Do not replace crochet stiches by chain stiches at the beginning of each row. Instead make endless spiral. Cr ochet a first
stitch of the row in first stitch of previous round. U se a stitch marker to remember of the beginning of th e round. How to
mark beginning of a row is demonstrated on pictures b elow.

Loose ends
At the beginning and the end of a piece leave a tai l of at least 15 cm or even longer, because most of these can be used
for sewing. Loose ends you do not use anymore can be pu lled through some stitches on the inside of the piece and cut
off.

Tail
Rd 1 : Begin with yellow, make 7 chains and crochet the first round. First SC of the round crochet in the first chain (and
close a ring) crochet SC in next 6 CH. In total 7 SC in this round.

Rd 5 : SC in next 5 ST, Sc2tog (6)
Rd 6-8 : SC in every ST (6)
We‘ve prepared the first part of the tail. Now we ma ke the second, the tassel. We work with the brown yar n. We wind
the yarn on our 2 fingers (approx.10x) and tie with a piece of yellow yarn together. Now we slip off the loops from
fingers and cut them with scissors. Now with a hook pull the yellow loose ends of the tassel in the first part of the tail
and fasten.

Spots (work 8-9x)
Rd 1 : Begin with brown . Crochet 5 chains and continue according to the sche mes below. Prepare 8 or 9 spots in total
using both schemes.

Sewing
Now we have all the parts we need to complete the co w and we can start sewing.
1. Sew the head and the body together.
2. As a second step, we sew the legs and larger hooves t ogether.
3. Then sew the arms and smaller hooves together.
4. Now sew the legs and arms on the body.
5. Sew the ears on head and fasten the hair between t he ears.
6. Then sew the tail on the back.
7. Sew the nostrils.
8. Put the collar around neck and sew the two ends to gether.
Your giraffe Sofie is now finished!
